I'M HERE!

Ms. Brown's Class

Dr. Brooks and Dr. Hollins

Ms. Burton's and Ms. McCray's students

PTA Program

Hi, Chevak Students!
I arrived in Georgia yesterday afternoon and was immediately wisked off to the library by Mrs. Nevil. There I was greeted by Ms. Burton's second grade and Ms. McCray's first grade classes. They even sang a song about me! They looked at the pictures that had been spread out on the tables. I was very glad to get out of the envelope! Luckily, Georgia is having a cold spell, so I was not too uncomfortable in my coat, mittens, and boots. Later, Ms. Brown's fourth grade came in, heard the letter also, and looked at the photos. They had many questions. The boys were very interested in seal hunting and the snow machines. They wondered if a boy of 9 or 10 would be allowed to drive one. I think they were very surprised to hear that there are no cars or trees in Chevak. When I looked OUT the library window, I saw many cars going past, even a bus, and lots of trees. Next, I was greeted by the principal, Dr. Hollins, and the assistant principal, Dr. Brooks. They made me feel very welcome. By this time, I was feeling tired from the jet lag and all the activity, so Mrs. Nevil let me have a little nap in her office. Later, Mrs. Hendricks came by and asked me if I would like to participate in the PTA Black History program at 6 pm. That's me hanging up on the curtain. The students were representing famous African Americans like Bill Cosby, Ella Fitzgerald, and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Then we had a meal of fried chicken, corn bread, macaroni and cheese, and something called collard greens, which took a little getting used to... I was too tired to write anything last night and went to bed early. Ms. Brown's class is taking me to the King Center this morning. I miss you all but I think I am going to have a good time at Knollwood.

Your friend,
Stanley

He's here! Flat Stanley arrived this morning on the bush plane in the mail. He got here in good shape. Parker's room opened the box and had a great time looking at all of the things Flat Stanly brought to share with us. We are going to make a bulletin board. The students were really impressed with the grits. Mrs. Bender might try to make some grits while Flat Stanley is here.
We were really curious about the yellow grits. What are they. What do you put in them? We've never seen them before.

We will have to get Flat Stanley a warm jacket and a fur hat to wear. We are soooo excited!

Hey Knollwood. I'm on my way!I'm bringing some photos and a letter for you! I'm a little nervous about getting out because the planes are having a hard time getting in and out of Chevak. Well, the planes can get to Chevak but they can't land! Too much ice and snow. I'm wrapped up good though - I'll make it!

Bon Voyage, Flat Stanley!

We had a grand send off party for Knollwood's Flat Stanley this afternoon. Ms. Burton's second grade class hosted the preparing and packing of Flat Stanley by decorating his mailing box and, along with Mrs. Arnold's third grade class, read their letters aloud. Our principal, Dr. Hollins, joined us as we sang The Flat Stanley Song.

Mrs. Nevil took Stanley to the Post Office and sent him priority mail, so he should arrive in Chevak by the middle of next week.

Reading the letters of introduction.

Singing the song.

Good-bye, Flat Stanley! Have a good time!

Knollwood Students Await Flat Stanley

We are busy helping Flat Stanley from Knollwood pack his bag. He says he would like to ride on a snow machine and watch a basketball game while he visits you in Chevak. We have a trip planned for Chevak's Flat Stanley to the Georgia Aquarium with Ms. Keith's Third Grade. For a better picture of our school, check out our website.

Chevak School students are so excited about our visit from Flat Stanley. I wonder if he has ever been to Alaska before!
